Week 3 | Stakeholder Research & Design Conceptualization

This week our group created a survey to better understand the problem that we selected. We also did research on our project and here are some of the results.

From the survey, the bike riders were most concerned with the following:

• Getting hit by vehicles at intersections and when they merge onto lanes, typically at right hand turns
• Signalling with hands and recognition of signals by drivers
• Spatial awareness, typically the blind spot shoulder
• Night-time or low visibility cycling
• Lack of distinct bike lanes

• 25% of accidents occurred while cycling on the roadway
• 29% of collisions occurred while cycling in a crosswalk/intersection
• 40% of motor vehicle drivers involved in cyclist collisions were involved in improper driving actions with the most frequent being “Failed To Yield Right of Way”
• 38% of drivers were noted as inattentive during collisions.

• Drivers do not care about the bicyclists - main point that is repeated
• Can back up information found in the bike report from prior experience and talking with customers
